What is Needed?

The RV to be inspected needs to have the utilities hooked up, time allotted and a checklist performed.

Prior to the actual Inspection, you will be provided with a Pre-Inspection Agreement and a “understanding” of what is involved. These two forms will need to be acknowledged and signed, prior to the inspection.

Often it will require some juggling between the Seller, the Buyer and the RV Inspector to get a thorough checklist performed.

The RV needs to be completely accessible with ALL utilities hooked up. We need to be able to perform all tasks related to using an RV. The batteries need to be charged, the refrigerator turned on at least 12 hours earlier, a generator (if present) needs to have enough fuel to be run, the RV itself if motorized needs to have gas/fuel to run.

The slides will be opened and closed and all utilities will be used. Not only is the water required to be hooked up, but we must be able to drain all waste tanks as well.

Many Sellers may be unwilling to move their RV to a campground or place with utility hook-ups. We understand the inconvenience, but it must be arranged.

It would be a dis-service to a Buyer if we couldn’t perform all the inspections on our checklists. How could we verify the generator capabilities if it has no fuel? Do Water tanks drain properly? Is there water pressure in the system?

Time

Time is another factor. Depending on the type of vehicle and inspection type, this could easily take 2-8 hours. The seller must be made aware of this so they understand the vehicle will be tied up for a period of time.

Test Drives

We do NOT drive the unit. If a Buyer chooses to do so (with Seller’s permission), that is their decision. We are not permitted to physically drive another person’s vehicle.

What is inspected?

We can only inspect what we can see and operate. If a washer and dryer is present, we need access to it. If the storage areas are filled with items, we cannot thoroughly inspect and see what is either good or bad in that area.

The more we can see and inspect, the better the inspection will be for the prospective Buyer.

It is very important to understand that the inspector can only provide you with their expert opinion on what they find. We cannot make any recommendations about a “purchase or not purchase” of the RV. Our task is to provide the best inspection possible and relay those results to the Prospective Buyer.

After the inspection is completed, we need time to return to our office, gather all our information and pictures and present an orderly report. This is typically done by email within 24 hours of the inspection. Fluid analysis can take up to a week to get the results back.

RV Inspectors will not provide water hoses, sewer hoses or connections, electrical adapters or connectors, generators, propane, batteries or fuel. Please make sure these are available prior to the scheduled inspection time.
